This German brand is known worldwide due to its manufacturing of orthopaedic shoes. You will be able to even find them for sale at pharmacies. However, do you what exactly what are the materials used for the base of all its models? Today on the EscapeShoes’ post, we explain you this and also the role that each of their components have. You will see that they are strategically designed to give your feet a special care. You just need to click to learn more!
Have you ever had the luxury of wearing an orthopaedic Birkenstock model? Do you have any idea of what they hide inside? All and each one of their layers are made of a specific material with a specific purpose. And it is precisely this that we explain to you on today’s post!
To start, what can you see at first glance when you have, for example, a pair of Birkenstock sandals in your hands? The great majority of the models have the surface covered with brown suede, which is truly soft when touching the sole of your feet.
Now, put the sandals at the level of your eyes and you will see from the corner the layer made of natural cork and latex. This material is called Cork-Latex by the brand.
In this same position, or if you put them upside down, you will also see the EVA that will be directly touching the pavement. It seems incredible to me how flexible, resistant and light it is!
But no! Did you think that these were all the layers that we mentioned before? Just wait, because there are still more! It has a total of five main layers that we schematized below:
- Covered with velvety suede.
- Upper jute layer.
- Central layer made of Cork-Latex.
- Lower jute layer.
- EVA outsole.
Some models, especially the most recent ones, also include a padded and foamy piece, between the upper jute layer and the suede. So that you can understand what we just explain better, it seemed to us that it would be a great idea for you to see the sectioned midsole.
Do you know what exactly jute is? It is a material similar to linen and hemp. Its fibres are obtained from the stem of the tropical plant with the same name. As you can see, its natural colour is beige or brownish yellow and it is frequently used to make ropes, bags and fabrics. One of its great advantages is that it is biodegradable!
And now you are asking yourself, why does Birkenstock include two layers of this material in its shoes? The one that is underneath the Cork-Latex piece is slightly thinner and offers stability in your walk. On the other hand, the one on top is a little bit thicker and is responsible for absorbing the moisture from your feet. It is fantastic, right?
Now, imagine! Both protect an anatomic layer that is incredibly flexible made of cork and latex. It is very durable and is characterized for its elasticity, cushioning and cold and heat resistance. The top presents curves that adapt to the sole of your feet. Below, on each one of the images, I show you the area that I refer to step by step:
Around the entire insole, you will see that there is an elevated trim, which protects the toes, as well as the heel and the sides of the foot. Besides, they have a pattern underneath the toes, which tilts the movements of the foot and give it a special support.
If we focus on the arch that is formed on the centre of the foot, you will realize that it helps you to keep a proper support so that you feel comfortable as you walk. Your heels will be really cosy with the depth that Birkenstock shoes present on this specific area.
Together, all this world of technologies strengthens your feet and your legs’ muscles. As a consequence, it also improves your blood circulation and guarantees a great wellbeing for your feet and your body.
Very well! Now you already know that will be the base for your feet when you are walking with your Birkenstock. Wait! You still don’t have your own pair?
