Have you ever watched a film and noticed that a certain character was using a pair of Converse All Star Chuck Taylor sneakers? Well, today on the EscapeShoes blog, we’ll talk about some film scenes where these sneakers had a notable role and the colours that are usually chosen to be part of film productions. So, do you want to know which models your favourite fictional characters use? Click here and read out new post!
Everyone that knows me knows that I love films and, as you had the chance to see on my previous post about my new Converse All Star Red, I’m also absolutely in love with these sneakers. Honestly, rare are the occasions when I don’t use them. So, with this in mind, I thought: “Why not combine them both?” I’m must don’t be the only one that has noticed these iconic shoes in the feet of fictional characters while I watched my favourite films. Of course, there could be situations where they’re least obvious, like in Marie Antoinette, or much more evident, like in I, Robot, which are used by Will Smith.
However, on today’s post, we’ll not show you all the moments when these ChuckTaylor All Star sneakers appear in films, because that would be an almost endless list. Therefore, we’ll nominate some of the films that I like the most where these shoes appear, but also in order to show a portion of the variety of All Stars colours chosen to show on the big screen.
Hence, on this EscapeShoes blog’s post, we’ll mainly talk about the film scenes where the Converse appear in the following films:
- Rocky & Back to the Future
- Harry Potter film series
- Sin City
- Lassie (1994)
Even if you hadn’t seen all these films, we hope that you at least recognize the names and we’ll also try to, very briefly, explain the film’s storyline without, of course, spoiling the best parts, so that you can watch later. 😉
After this introduction, we’ll then start with the first part…
Rocky & Back to the Future
Well, you must be wondering why these two films were put together in the same section. Well, the truth is that they have some common aspects. In addition of now being classics of American cinema, both protagonists use the same model of All Stars: the M9160 001 high top black sneakers!
In Rocky, who doesn’t remember this iconic scene? Our main character played by Sylvester Stallone is training to become the world heavyweight champion and goes up the stairs at the entrance of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. And what is he using while running and going up these stairs? It’s nothing more, nothing less than these Converse Hi Black sneakers. You can really tell that these shoes are for champions!
Now, going from sports drama to science fiction comedy, we have the film Back to the Future, where we meet Marty McFly, a teenager played by Michael J. Fox, which is sent to the past and tries to find a way to go back to the present. When Marty notices that there are some differences between how people dressed in 1955 and 1985, i.e. his present time, he decides to use the high top black sneakers in order to better fit in. Of course, he could use them in the 80s and he would have the same result! And, like Rocky, Marty engages in a physical activity, in this case on the skateboard, while using his All Stars.
Truthfully, there’re several films that specifically use this model of high top black sneakers, but we chose these two in particular due to their own popularity and due to the impact that both had in the modern cinema.
Harry Potter film series
Again, in this part we don’t refer to just a film, but to several of them where the famous fictional character, Harry Potter, uses these worldwide known shoes. In truth, throughout his saga, this wizard used different colours of Converse sneakers, and perhaps you already noticed that he usually uses these shoes when he has a more casual look or when he’s running away from an enemy, i.e. when he’s not using the school uniform. Among such variety, we chose two that seemed very interesting:
This first model is the M5039 006 Ox Black Monochrome and, as its name indicates, it’s characterized for its black monochrome colour. I.e. in contrast to the model from the previous section, this one even has the sole itself and the shoelaces in black. They are really ideal to match with any colour! Very similar to the next model:
Again, Harry Potter chooses a discreet colour, in this case, light grey. Perhaps the reason why he chooses such discreet colours is to go more unnoticed by the enemy. Another aspect to take into account is that he usually uses these sneakers with a pair of jeans and a jumper or a jacket also in neutral colours. They actually look great on him, right?
Sin City
We’ll now go to my favourite colour: red. More specifically, we’ll talk about the M9621 600 Hi Red sneakers, i.e. with a high top.
Honestly, I didn’t find many films where the characters used this specific colour of Converse sneakers, but I found a very interesting and unique case.
Sin City is a film noir based of an adult comic and, being a film noir, it’s normal that the majority of the film is in black and white. However, this film in particular is different, because it uses slight touches of colour in several scenes. And it’s in these scenes that you notice Clive Owen’s, who plays Dwight, red sneakers. One of the best scenes is when Dwight jumps off a building and the camera focus on him and his sneakers.
Lassie (1994)
Finally, in this part we’ll talk about a film that, even if you hadn’t seen it, you must already recognize the name. Well, the dog Lassie has already appeared in other films and even had several TV series. However, of course we’ll not talk about Lassie herself, but about the 13 year old boy called Matt, who takes this abandoned dog in and the two of them form an unbreakable friendship.
As you probably must have already noticed, the use of the Converse All Star sneakers is not as notable in this film as in the others that we mentioned on this post. However, we wanted to mention this film due to the colour of the main character’s sneakers, which is maroon. It’s in fact one of the most recent colours that we have available at EscapeShoes. Like in many of the models of this American brand, you can find this colour in low or high top sneakers.
They provide the same comfort and style than all the other All Star Chuck Taylor models, but also have a colour that matches with grey, blue and black, for the boys, as well as with beige, purple and brownish yellow, for the girls.
Right now, you must be thinking that you need to see these films again to see if you can find the scenes with the Converse sneakers, right? Or, perhaps, by any chance you found other film scenes where they’re present? Tell us everything! And don’t forget that you’ll be able to find many other colours available at EscapeShoes. So, place the online order of your All Stars and be your very own film star!
