Have comfort and height this summer!
Nothing identifies itself more with summer than a pair of sandals, and wedge sandals have been the favourites of many women lately. And it’s easy to see the reason why! The wedge serves as both heel and sole, so it offers you the desired height, but in a more comfortable way for your foot.
However, as more popular wedge sandals grow, more new types of wedges begin to appear. Do you prefer the traditional rubber or the rustic cork? Perhaps you prefer the soft suede or the summery esparto grass? There are many options and today on the EscapeShoes blog we’ll show you our favourites. Let’s go!
Rubber wedges
In the beginning, it was the type of wedge that was most common, but it continues to be much requested, due to the fact that it’s as non-sticky as a usual rubber sole. And a brand that bets constantly on this type of wedge is Fly London, and so always finds new ways to innovate it, like for example the one of the Hole Hauk627 Camel sandals, which presents and original round hole in the middle. However, it also always keeps in its collections its traditional and so popular Yellow line’s wedges, so well-known for the comfort and stability that they provide.
Cork wedges
Another material frequently used to make wedges is cork, because of its lightness and ability to insulate the temperature, very appropriate for summer. And, again, Fly London bets on this type of wedges with another of its famous lines, Glam. Throughout the years, this cork wedge has suffered some alterations, but currently has a very compact design, thus increasing its durability, but keeping at the same time its rusticity. Another brand that also has been betting more and more on cork wedges is Ria Menorca. The height of this Spanish brand’s wedges is comparatively lower than the ones from Fly London, but offer in the same way a comfortable and stable walk.
Suede wedges
There are also many brands that prefer to have a softer and velvety wedge, so they decide to cover it with suede. Xuz, for example, has the custom of adding a few wedge models to its summer collections, the majority of time made of suede. The wedge sandals Gold Sequins on the first photo not only have the wedge made of suede, but also their straps. However, if what you want is a contrast of textures, the Lorna Coral Yellow Black sandals from Dkode are perfect for you! While the wedge is made of suede, the straps are made of smooth leather and, despite some of them being in the same colour, the contrast of textures is clearly visible.
Esparto wedges
This is a material that appears many times in summer shoes, mainly espadrilles, but recently it has also appeared in wedge sandals. Covered with braided esparto grass, these wedges quickly have a more country look, truly ideal for the hot days. Both the Cubanas Lura160 Blue and the GUESS Olisa Lugga Brown present esparto wedges in their natural colour, but you can also find them dyed in another colour to match with the shoes.
Multi wedges
What do we mean by this? Well, as you probably can guess by looking at the photos above, these wedges are made of multiple materials, thus making not only a secure and stable structure, but also a fun and original visual effect. For example, the wedge of the Cubanas Stela110 Chocolat Golden has a first layer of wood, then a thinner one of foam and, lastly, a final layer of cork. This model was created from the Neo Explorer trend, based on the search for new patterns, textures and effects, obtained from the combination of natural materials. It’s very original, right?
