When we all buy a brand new pair of shoes we’d like them to stay exactly how we bought them for many years, isn’t that right? However, with wear and with the environmental impact, that becomes tough. That’s why on today’s EscapeShoes blog post we’ll give you a few tips and tricks to clean and take care of your footwear, no matter the material it’s made of! Shall we?
- Suede
- Leather
- Canvas / Textile
Suede
We start with the most difficult and sensitive material, suede. To clean any type of dirt from this material you just need to use a suitable brush. Always dry since suede cannot get wet as there’s a risk of it getting stained. In case you’ve dirtied your shoes with mud, for example, it’s important to let them completely dry and then clean them with the brush. The technique’s to let it dry!
Tip – In case you store your suede shoes for a very long time, place the well-known silica gel bags so that they can absorb the moisture, thus preventing stains.
Leather
Leather items are usually the easiest to maintain. Since their base’s very smooth and you can just use a wet cloth on the area to clean and you’re done! In more complex cases you just need to use a bit of neutral soap and a suitable brush (the softest).
Tip – Use a leather-suitable cream regularly (once a month), so that your leather shoes always have a glossy look. In case it’s in the same colour as the shoes you can even disguise tiny marks!
Canvas / Textile
Possibly the easiest shoes to maintain and clean since many of them, not all of them, can go directly to the washing machine. In case it’s not possible, use a neutral detergent and a brush to remove their dirt! Let them dry outdoors, but not directly in contact with the sun since it can stain or make their colour disappear. By norm, canvas shoes are sneakers.
Tip – Every time you wash your sneakers, remove the shoelaces, since they can leave marks around the eyelets. Place them together with the insole inside a laundry bag and wash them in the machine.
What do you think of these tips? Do you use any of them? Tell us all! We’re waiting for you at the EscapeShoes online shoe store!
