The brand’s history fast forwards to 1945 when soldier Doc. Klaus Märtens, with 25 years old created a sole/air cushion especially for his recuperation after breaking his foot.
After presenting the prototype to a friend and mechanical engineer, Doc. Herbert Funk, they decided to become partners and make their own shoes.
Back from England, the family Griggs business sees this outsole innovation and asks for permission to be able to start manufacture it, now called “AirWair”. By adding the slogan “With Bouncing Soles” the classic Dr. Martens 1460 model was born.
These classic shoes became a cultural icon and it was thanks to music that they went from working boots to day-to-day fashion shoes!
Nowadays Dr. Martens shoes continue to be recognized worldwide and by any generation!
